Haha!  Found the video that they used to introduce Mark Hamill at CV.  I posted it in the original thread and here:

Day 14: Your favorite EU novel

Ahhh, the good old days of the EU, when the good guys won, nobody important died, and Luke Skywalker finally got to live happily ever after.

Before the dark times...before Del Rey!

Living in the same town as Celebration has its advantages: I saved a ton of money on airfare and hotel costs, and didn't have to worry about taking care of the dogs.  However, it also has it's drawbacks, mainly being that I live half an hour away from the Orange County Convention Center.  Also, because of work deadlines, I had to work in the morning.  At least I could rush over the OCCC as soon as I was finished, and not waste an entire day at the convention with traveling.

I got out of work around 12:30, drove home and arrived at convention center around 2 pm.  Philip and I walked in the main entrance, and split up.  With horrible memories of C3 lines, I immediately went to the Celebration Store and was amazed that there was no line.  It was actually arranged like a store, where you could help yourself, and not like a booth with runners.  Unfortunately, they were out of the shirt I wanted, so instead I got the Princess Leia "I am Not a Committee" t-shirt.

After getting the store taken care of, I walked around exhibit hall, took photos of all the cool life-size props, and got the Padme Nouveau t-shirt at the Her Universe booth.   While there I got a phone call from [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire55 , aka Nancy.  (Yes, Nanci meet Nancy. :D)  She was in line for Anthony Daniels, so I walked over to the line to hang out with her for a bit.  It was cool meeting another internet friend, and one who loves SW as much as I do! :)

We split up while she was getting her autograph, so I visited Ralph McQuarrie art exhibit.  The art was beautiful, and I saw a girl with a really funny Ewok costume.

Then it was back to the Exhibit hall for some more wandering around, and then I decided to attend the Models of The Empire Strikes Back panel with Jon Berg and Lorne Peterson.  I hadn't planned on attending any panels on Thursday, but since I got to the OCCC earlier than expected and didn't have to wait in lines for the store or Her Universe booth, I had extra time.  It was interesting hearing Jon and Lorne talk about their work on ESB and how much work went into the models, especially the Super Star Destroyer Executor, which required running tiny fiber-optic lights to simulate lights in the ship.

The panel let out at 5:30, so I took a peek in the Hoth Ice Bar, then went over to trivia at 6pm.  It was disorganized and not very entertaining, so I left and sat in the Clone Wars screening room for a few minutes.  After some more time in the Exhibit Hall, I met up with Philip to watch The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones in the Digital Stage.  Unfortunately, the picture kept going out during TPM, and the replacement DVD wasn't high-def so it wasn't as pretty.  Still, we stayed until the end of the film, and then I decided to skip AOTC because it was later than I expected and I was exhausted.  Let me just say though, that it was so awesome watching TPM (and all the other films I got to see) with other Star Wars fans.  This should be required attendance of everyone at Celebrations.  People cheered when characters were introduced, even Anakin, which surprised me.  The only thing that annoyed me was the constant jeering of Jar Jar.  Get over it, already!  Grrr.  People cheered when Anakin and Obi-Wan were introduced, which made me smile, and everyone went crazy during the lightsaber duel.  There was very loud cheering when the door open to reveal Darth Maul, when he ignited his lightsaber, when Obi-Wan attacked Maul after Qui-Gon's death, and when he sliced Darth Maul in half.  The best part, though, was everyone screaming "NOOOOOOO!" in unison with Obi-Wan.  Even though Qui-Gon's death always makes me sad, I had to laugh at that.

Next: Friday, or MARK HAMILL DAY!

Posting two for the weekend:

Day 12: Your favorite non-human species/race

Whatever Yoda is. :)

Day 13: The most memorable death

This was a hard one for me. Because I haven't actually read Mara Jade's death, I can't choose that one, although it's the one I can never really forget because there are no more stories about her! :P Um, anyway. Darth Vader's death is memorable just because of the emotional impact. Same with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In the end, I have to go with Qui-Gon Jinn's death. Even though I knew it was going to happen (stupid spoilers), I wasn't expecting to see him get stabbed with a lightsaber, die in Obi-Wan's arms, and then...NOT disappear. I still remember all the discussion about that. Also, it sparked tons of "what if" conversations. Personally, I believe that, had Qui-Gon lived, Anakin would not have turned to the dark side. For that reason, his death is certainly the most memorable.

You guys HAVE to watch this CV video. These guys are the reasons I want to watch Clone Wars. Completely awesome. Tom Kane's Morgan Freeman impression is uncanny.

This one deserves it's own entry.

Day 10: Your favorite EU character

Isn't it obvious? If not, well, here she is: )
jedimara77: (han geek tinamishi)
I found the original post at theadorkable.net, and even though I'm already going through my entries on another board, I wanted to post it here, too. :) I'm currently on Day 11, so this is long to get caught up:

http://theadorkable.net/2010/08/01/30-days-of-star-wars-meme/

Day 1: Your favorite character
Luke Skywalker. When all the other girls were fawning over Han Solo, I was head over heels for the good guy. I loved his earnestness in A New Hope. I felt his pain in The Empire Strikes Back. And I was blown away by his transformation to confident fighter in Return of the Jedi. The EU provided me with more adventures of Luke Skywalker, which is why I loved the EU so much, and why now I'm not as enthralled (I want the OLD Luke, not what he has become). His character is the hero's journey personified, and I cannot imagine ever loving and admiring a character as much as Luke.

Day 2: Your favorite villain
For me, this is easy. I love to hate Palpatine. He is so wonderfully eeeeeeeeevil. And Ian McDiarmid is just perfect. What else can I say?

Day 3: Your favorite diva
In honor of Celebration V taking place here in OrLANDO, I choose the one, the only, Lando Calrissian! Come on, he's got an awesome mustache and he wears a cape. Plus, Lando's not a system, he's a man! A MAN baby!

Day 4: Your favorite moment to mock
IT'S A TRAP!!!!

Day 5: Your favorite pirate
The EU dork in me is going to pick Talon Karrde.

Day 6: Your favorite political entity
And the EU dork in me is going to pick the New Republic.

Day 7: Your favorite creature
Tauntaun, followed closely by varactyl (Boga!)

Day 8: Your favorite movie
This is a hard one for me. I change my mind on this all the time. When I first got into Star Wars, it was ROTJ. But of course I changed my mind and it was ANH, and then ESB. When the prequels came out, all of them became my favorite at one point or the other...but it always went back to ROTJ.
I think my favorite movie has to be a tie between ROTJ and ROTS. I love them both for different reasons. For nostalgia's sake, I'll always turn to ROTJ because it reminds me of when I first got into Star Wars and devouring every single thing about Star Wars I could find, and then I'll put in ROTS because it reminds me of Celebration III, years of anticipation and build-up, and the emotions of watching the last Star Wars movie on the big screen.

Day 9: Your favorite movie character
Obviously it would be Luke Skywalker, but to stave off redunancy, I'm going with Leia. A strong woman in a sci-fi film? Who is allowed to develop a romantic relationship without being defined by it? And is kick ass in her own right? Yeah, I love her.

Day 10: Your favorite EU character
This one deserves it's own entry. Besides, it's long. :D

Day 11: Your favorite weapon
The lightsaber. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

EU & CV

I'm still working on my CV post. I want to remember everything! I can't believe that a week ago I was walking around the convention center with a bunch of other nerds. Driving by the convention center on my way home today was very depressing.

So CV totally reigniting my love for Star Wars, so much so that I want to get back into the EU. I know - after Mara died I swore I would never read the EU again, but what can I say. I miss it. I'll always want more Mara stories, but I'm interested in the new Fate of the Jedi series after attending the panel at CV. I hope it meets my expectations. And I can always hope for some new Mara stories. Del Rey said that they're going to focus on standalones/duologies/trilogies after FOTJ, so maybe they'll go back and fill in the timeline between Vision of the Future and NJO, and between NJO and Dark Nest. One can only hope!

I just got Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor from the library. Hopefully it's good! (And I'm rereading Vision of the Future, heh.)

At Celebration V, I bought the Padme Nouveau shirt from the Her Universe clothing line. http://heruniverseshop.com/Products/Padme_Tee.aspx It is absolutely gorgeous, even moreso in person.

I had the opportunity to meet Ashley Eckstein twice at the booth, and the second time she said that they are coming out with a similar design featuring Obi-Wan, and young Obi-Wan will be the large portrait. I told her "yeah, I'm going to have to buy that shirt!" Thought some of you (you know who you are!) would be interested in that tidbit. :)

CV is over. I'm sad. :(

I'm also super high on a) caffeine and b) adrenaline that even though I'm completely tired, I can't fall asleep. To quote every character in the Star Wars universe - NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I blame the internet.

Hopefully I'll make it through tomorrow. And I'll post pics and stuff. 'Cause I know you all can't wait!

OrLANDO

Tomorrow is Day 1 of Celebration V! I have to go to work (boo!), but I'm planning on leaving early (yay!). Hopefully I can leave by 2. If I'm lucky, I'll leave earlier!

I'll be tweeting, 'cause that's the hip thing to do. I'm @nancipants if you care to see me squeal with joy all weekend long.

Watch out, OrLANDO, the geeks are in town!

Philip and I went to my mom's house on Saturday to celebrate Christmas, since we're all going out of town. Several of my cousins came, including 3-year-old Brady.

Several of us were sitting at the kitchen table and somebody asked Brady what he wants to be when he grows up.

His response, after thoughtful consideration?

"BATMAN!"

thanks

Always an important question:

i give up, why?

One should always know their congressman/woman, but they should also know Big Papa.

who IS big papa?

I decided to do my own Google experiment. I'm a bit disturbed by the results.

WTF?
jedimara77: (lukethroneroom jedi shinyboots)
My fandom roots, that is.

On Sunday I had the opportunity to see Star Wars In Concert at the St. Pete Times Forum. My best friend Amanda bought me the tickets as a combined Christmas/birthday present because she said "it would be wrong if I didn't go see it," and I haven't been wanting to spend a lot of money lately. In short, she is awesome. Since Amanda couldn't attend herself, I invited my friend Vanessa to go with me, since she's also a Star Wars fan and had said she would love to see the concert. (My husband, who I met at a STAR WARS CONVENTION, did not want to attend. Weirdo.)

We got to Tampa early and ate lunch at Precinct Pizza, formerly NYPD, and it was delicious! Then we walked to the Forum and ended up getting upgraded to the lower bowl section, yay!

The concert was AMAZING. The orchestra and choir sounded beautiful. The LED screen was the clearest I've ever seen. The first clip they showed was, of couse, the Star Destroyer flying overhead from ANH, and I immediately turned to Vanessa and said "Wow that looks awesome!" It definitely convinced me that I need a Blu-Ray player once the movies are finally released in that format.

Anyway, the concert followed the same format at the Star Wars: A Musical Journey DVD that was released with the ROTS soundtrack, except that Anthony Daniels was the narrator, they changed the order of songs just a tad, and they added "The Flag Parade" from TPM to the first act. Also, the intro to the second act was "Clash of the Lightsabers," one of my favorite songs from ESB, accompanied with mood-setting lasers. It was pretty awesome.

During the first half of the concert I mainly restrained myself from bouncing around. The first act started with the "Main Title," of course, they showed clips from the movies in order that they were released, which I thought was really cool. The first act ended with "The Imperial March," and I was so pumped that I had to go buy a t-shirt. (I had originally said they were too expensive, lol.) The second half was much more emotional for me, mainly because there seemed to be more slow songs. "Princess Leia's Theme" had me convinced that I need to name my potential future daughter Leia. "Yoda's Theme" made me feel really sad for him, especially since the last clip they showed was Yoda dying. "Luke and Leia" made me smile and misty-eyed, especially at the clips of them hugging at the end of ANH and greeting each other at the rendez-vous in ROTJ. The worst, though, was "Light of the Force," which showed clips Luke and Vader fighting in ROTJ, then Vader dying, and then Luke lighting the funeral pyre interspersed with clips of Anakin throughout the prequels, ending with the shot of him turning around to run back to his mother in TPM. Ohhhhhhh that nearly made me bawl. I have such mixed feelings about Anakin as a character, and things like this really make me feel sad that he had such a tragic life (and make me think "Why did you have to be such a DUMBASS?"). The last song was "The Throne Room and End Title," ending with clips of the actual throne room scene, as well as the end parade from TPM and the new celebrations at the end of ROTJ. Then they came back on for an encore, which was a much-desired reprise of "The Imperial March."

If you get a chance to see this concert, I HIGHLY recommend it. I am back on a Star Wars high. I came home from the concert and immediately put in TPM. :)

There are some clips of the concert on YouTube if you are interested. This user has several in high def. http://www.youtube.com/user/michelleilovemusic#p/u/1/6wV3REPGWL4
