A comment re: Mockingjay and a certain character death:

I felt like I did when Anakin Solo died.  You know - because Chewie died to save his life.  And then two years later, Anakin dies as well.  Completely negating that sacrifice.

So yeah.  RIP Primrose.  And EVERYBODY ELSE WHO'S DEAD.  DEAD DEAD DEAD.  DEAD.

But I did enjoy the series.  More thoughts coming later.

I will say that Prim's death I think actually served the plot rather well. It's at that moment that Katniss realizes Coin is no better than Snow and if anything is going to change, something drastic is going to have to happen.

Also. Mary McDonnell is so President Coin.

I get why it's important. But the emotions are still the same. :(

Oh definitely. Soon as I got there I just started sobbing and sobbing. You realize that everything Katniss did had, literally, just gone up in flames. And after that ... Gloves came off.

It is SO painful but such an excellent story element.

Plus Katniss is so fucked up and I love that.

I thought it worked well with the story and was necessary, but yeah, so so sad.

I completely freaked out over the ending of Mockingjay. They seem so close to doing what they have to do and then Prim dies. My jaw literally dropped when Katniss shot Coin too. The part that had me most mortified, though, is when the group of surviving tributes decide to hold another Hunger Games.

I think the ending worked really well but I did feel a little let down. Overall, it was a great series!

I feel that the ending to the story (the last third of Mockingjay, let's say) worked well and was appropriate to the characters and the direction the entire series had been headed. But for me personally it was too much. Too much sadness, bleakness, hardship, etc. I didn't like feeling so depressed at the end and that ruined the series for me.

I didn't quite understand what had happened. It took a while to sink in. But, YES, your reference to Anakin. EXACTLY LIKE THAT.

I agree that this was a shocking death that was difficult to understand and made me regret reading the book in public.

While I see the similarities to the New Jedi Order, this was vastly different. First, Katniss actually survives the Hunger Games twice. Second, Prim's death may have been planned from the start and was certainly Collins' idea; Anakin's death as opposed to that of Jacen or Jaina was forced upon Denning by Lucasfilm Licensing so there wouldn't two Anakin's in the EU. Interesting to think how the series that followed would have been different if a different Solo had died.

If Katniss had died in the first Hunger Games, she would have saved Prim. By surviving and starting a revolution, Prim became the most significant casualty. The Star Wars galaxy was already at war. If Chewbacca doesn't save Anakin, the Yuuzhan Vong win.
