I finished the book about an hour and a half ago. It took me 11 hours, minus breaks for lunch and dinner, to read it, which I'm kind of proud of. (I've never read a book straight through before, because I like to always be in the middle of a book.)

Anyway. I can't really compose a long, thought-out post right now, because all my thoughts are still jumbled up like crazy. So, here's some initial reactions.

No, Mad-Eye! The first casualty - unless, of course, you count Hedwig. And poor George lost his ear! (Haha, holey!)

I felt weird reading the first part of the book, because I missed Hogwarts and the other students so much. Thankfully my hopes came true and Hogwarts played a big part later on.

DOBBY!!! I just about started crying then. Poor Dobby, comes to Harry Potter's rescue and then dies for him. He got a good death. He's annoying as anything in the movie, but he has a good role in the other books. I'm sad he died, but I'm glad he got a hero's death.

Speaking of house elves, I guess Kreacher isn't so bad after all. Good thing Rowling told them to keep him in the OOTP movie.

OMG the radio show cracked me UP! The part about running away like Severus Snape confronted with a bottle of shampoo had me in stiches.

A REAL kiss for Ron and Hermione. Awww. And after Ron said something nice about the house-elves. I guess he doesn't have the emotional capacity of a teaspoon, after all. (Or he just learned from his book.)

The death count for this book really got big. I can't even keep track of how many people died.

Percy isn't a git after all! Yay!

Neville was the head of the resistance at Hogwarts! That was SO AWESOME! Poor little Neville Longbottom finally gets his day in the sun. And he was able to pull out Gryffindor's sword, and he helped Harry destroy Nagini! And he becomes Professor of Herbology! YAY NEVILLE!

On a much more somber note...Fred. Remus. Tonks. Oh man. I started bawling when Fred died. That was just way too painful. And Remus and Tonks after they just had a baby!!! Way to rip out my heart JKR. :(

So Snape was good after all, and died telling Harry what Harry needed to know. I had kind of thought that he loved Lily somehow, but I didn't realize that they had known each other for so long. And I figured that Dumbledore had ordered Snape to kill him, but it was really interesting how that all played out. It's still annoying that Snape had to be such an ass, but that's why these characters are so interesting.

When Harry walked into the forest with the ghosts of James, Lily, Sirius, and Remus, I got really misty-eyed. I was soooooo hoping that Harry wouldn't really die.

MOLLY WEASLEY KICKS ASS! I was hoping that Neville would get to take out Bellatrix, but seeing Mrs. Weasley in action was just AWESOME. Don't mess with her!

The epilogue made me all misty-eyed. They all lived happily ever after. And I'm still giggling over Profesor Longbottom.

Okay, I'm sure I'll think of more later. I'm going to read the book again, slowly this time. I know I missed a bunch. :p

I am definitely going to have to read it again. I like how everything came full circle. I kind of emotionally steeled myself for the deaths ahead of time. I figured Mad-Eye wouldn't make it, but Fred, Remus and Tonks made me sad. Well, when Tonks went charging off after Remus, I knew she wouldn't make it. Sadly, I'm glad JKR killed both of them, because I think I would have lost it if one of them would have had to survive without the other.

My one complaint... the last chapter was pure cheese. All of the kids names had me checking to see if someone had slipped some fan fic into the end of the book.

Yeah, the epilogue was very fan-ficish. I still liked it, though. I'm glad the main characters lived happily ever after. Yeah, I'm a sap. :p
